Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Division 6 Girls' Final 2015

Goal crazy Currin N.S. win final

Currin N.S ----7-9

Corliss/Coronea N.S---- 1-2

The girls of St. Mogue’s National School achieved their goal(s) in no uncertain fashion at the 3G on Wednesday last as they secured this year’s Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Division Six title.

The Ballyconnell-based youngsters had simply too much firepower for their brave but out-classed opponents.

The winners-elect led from gun to tape with their fluid, attacking and skilful football a joy to behold.

To their credit, the Cornafean amalgam never gave up the ghost but their inability to handle St. Mogue’s county players in particular proved fatal to their hopes.

The Currin crew hit the ground running and points from Clodagh Geoghegan and Natasha McKiernan had the Cornafean alliance on the backfoot after less than 90 seconds.

In the 4th minute, Cornafean’s finest had a chance of opening their account but Aine Greene did well to block a goal-bound shot from Brianna McCaffrey.

Corliss/Coronea did have some joy though in the 6th minute when Brianna McCaffrey set up Aimee McIntyre for a well-worked goal.

Currin replied like all good champions in double quick time and Clodagh Geoghegan found the net after blocking an attempted clearance.

Shauna Flood hit back with a point for the chasing team but after a great move that covered the whole length of the field, Natasha McKiernan goaled for the leaders.

There was simply no let-up for the Cornafean axis as a 1-1 tally from Natasha McKiernan immediately after half-time left their opponents’ job almost an impossible one.

The lights continued to remain stuck on green for the black and red brigade as the second half progressed and a fine Geoghegan goal (4) had the game all but sown up

The Corliss/Coronea amalgamation continued to battle ‘till the very end but once Natasha McKiernan and Aine Greene combined to put Bevan McCaffrey through for a goal (6), there was never going to be a way back for the gutsy but out-fought Cornafean outfit.
