Kilnaleck N.S penned Redhills N.S back in their own half, in the first period but couldn't transmit their excellent play onto the scoreboard, until late in the first half. Redhills N.S forays into the Kilnaleck half were few and far between in the first period, with Ciara Boylan and Christina Charters rock solid for Kilnaleck N.S, in the full back line.
Kilnaleck captain O'Reilly combined with Kate Smith in the 13th minute, to tee up Lovett who was again in the right place at the right time, to stroke the sliothar past Tara Mulvanney in the Redhills N.S goal. This left Kilnaleck N.S with a 2-0 to 0-0 lead approaching the half time whistle.
Redhills N.S got a huge boost heading into the half time interval, when Emma Mulvanney took a puckout from her own goal and hammered it down the length of the field, where it sailed into the net past Kilnaleck goalkeeper Sadhbh Brady. This goal left Redhills N.S trailing by 2-0 to 1-0 at the half time intermission.
With the rain driving across the field, it made conditions increasingly more difficult for both sets of players.
Kilnaleck N.S continued to carve out the better openings but their scoring radar was off. Kilnaleck N.S hit three wides in the opening minutes of the second half and Redhills N.S almost made them pay for their wastefulness in the 20th minute. Emma Mulvanney, who had a fine game for Redhills N.S drove a pass into the path of Aoife Rudden, who saw her shot snuffed out by the Kilnaleck defence when she was in a dangerous goalscoring position.
Kilnaleck N.S gave themselves breathing space with 23 minutes gone when Cara Reilly rifled in her side's third goal after more unselfish play by Lorna O'Reilly.
Redhills N.S ensured that there would be an exciting climax to the game, when they pulled the score back to 3-0 to 2-0, in the 28th minute. Redhills's Rudden pulled on the sliothar and saw her shot squirm under Brady's attempted clearance to sneak into the net.
Kate Smith saw a goal chance for Kilnaleck in the 29th minute blocked that would have re-established their two goal cushion.
